About The Owner: Ken Poteet

Ken Poteet began his law enforcement career in the U.S. Army Military Police. He served as a Military Police Patrolman and as a Military Police Investigator. After the military he began work in civilian law enforcement in Southeast Tennessee. Ken worked for two sheriff’s departments and one police department in the Tennessee area.

While working as a Bradley County Sheriff's Deputy in Cleveland, Tennessee, Ken was assigned to the department’s drug unit and promoted to detective. Ken was later reassigned from this unit to a Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) Federal Drug Task Force in Chattanooga, Tennessee. Ken served on this drug task force for over two years until returning to the Bradley County Sheriff's Office as a Lieutenant Detective with the assignment of Drug Unit Commander for the department and the 10th Judicial Drug Task Force.

Ken stayed in this position until he accepted a position with the Montana Department of Justice Division of Criminal Investigation (DCI). During his time with DCI Ken has served both as a narcotics agent and as a regional narcotics supervisor. Ken was assigned to a High Intensity Drug Trafficking Area (HIDTA) task force for 15 years. While serving on this HIDTA task force Ken was dual assigned to an FBI Violent Crimes Task Force for 7 years.

Ken has over 37 years of experience in law enforcement with over 30 years in drug enforcement and violent crimes investigations. He has hundreds of hours of training and even more hours of street experience in dealing with the countries drug abuse and violent crime problems. He has conducted many investigations both as an overt investigator and as an undercover agent while participating in the war on drugs and the escalating gun violence issues facing the country.

Over the past 24 years Ken has become increasingly involved with speaking and instructing to law enforcement and civilian groups.  In 2005, Ken founded The Awareness Group Consulting LLC. This independent company provides consulting and training regarding the challenges surrounding drug abuse and violent crimes.

In 2019 Ken retired from law enforcement and is now involved with full time consulting through The Awareness Group.
